1. Can I purchase a Camping, Firewood, or Christmas Tree Permit online?

Yes you can! From the Forest & Parks webpage, go to "Permits and Licenses for details!
There is a convenience fee of $1.50 per $50 charged that is retained by the credit card processing provider. Purchase here

2. How do I put my land into the Managed Forest Program?

The DNR handles the Managed Forest Land Program. You can call them in Webster at 715-866-8201, in Grantsburg at 715-463-2897, or in Spooner at 715-635-2102.

3. When and where can I ride my snowmobile/ATV/UTV?

4. Where can I get a snowmobile/ATV trail map?

Many local businesses such as motels, gas stations, taverns, etc. have both summer and winter trail maps. You could email Burnett County Tourism at Bctour@sirentel.net and ask them to mail you one, or you may view them on our website at Trail Rules, Maps, and Licensing

5. What are the state definitions of an ATV or UTV?

These are determined by the DNR. Please follow this link for more information. State Definitions

6. On what roads is it legal to ride my ATV/UTV?

It depends on what type of road you are asking about. There are State Highways, County Highways, Town Roads and Village Streets. ALL of these are governed by different agencies. The Burnett County Highway Department oversees the County Highways (those named by capital letters – i.e. County Hwy D; County Hwy FF, etc.). All of our county roads are open to ATVs and UTVs EXCEPT County Hwy-A from State Hwy 35 to Kilkare Road. For information on Town Roads or Village Streets you will need to contact the individual towns and villages.

7. Can I ride my ATV/UTV on the Gandy Dancer Trail?

ATV/UTV use is NOT allowed on the Gandy Dancer Trail south of State Highway 77 from April 1 through November 30 each year.

From December 1 through March 31, and once there is a 4" groomed snow base; or if there is no snow, once the ground is frozen; and trails have officially been opened, you may ride your ATV/UTV on the Gandy Dancer Trail. Check for openings and closures, and sign up for email or text notifications, by following the link below.

The northern segment of the trail allows ATVs & UTVs and begins north of State Highway 77 in Danbury crossing over the St. Croix River to Minnesota. For more information, please contact Pine County, MN Gandy Dancer Information at 218-460-7021.

8. Where can I get a map of the ATV township routes?

You will need to contact each individual township for information on their ATV routes. Please follow this link for that information Burnett County Townships

9. Am I able to cut firewood on Burnett County Forest Land?

Burnett County Natural Resources Committee offers county residents or landowners an opportunity to purchase a permit from the Forest and Parks Department. Permits are issued beginning on July 15 of every year with an expiration date of March 31. Resale of firewood under this permit is not allowed.

10. Where can I get a map of the Burnett County Forest Lands?

The best map showing Burnett County Forest Lands is a plat book. These are available at local retailers and in the County Clerk's Office located in the Burnett County Government Center. You may also use the GIS mapping system here on our website by going to the homepage and clicking on the "MAPS GIS" signpost on the righthand side of the screen. 11. Can I get a map of the Gandy Dancer Bike Trail?

Contact the Burnett County Tourism Office at 715-349-5999 if you would like a map mailed to you, or follow this link for a view of our interactive map and also a printable map. Bike Map

12. Do I need a bike pass to use the Gandy Dancer Trail?

A state trail pass is required for bicyclists 16 years of age or older. You do not need a pass when hiking.

Daily passes are $5.00 and an annual pass is $25.00.

In Siren: Holiday Station Store (open 24/7), The Lodge at Crooked Lake (open 24/7), and Yourchuck's True Value (open 7a.m.-9p.m. 7 days/wk)

In Danbury: Log Cabin Store (open 6a.m.-10p.m. 7 days/wk)

Passes can also be purchased through the Forest & Parks Dept. during weekday business hours at 8150 State Road 70, Siren.

ATVs/UTVs are NOT allowed on the Gandy Dancer Trail south of State Highway 77 from April 1 through November 30 of each year.

Passes are valid for use on other WI State Bike Trails.

13. Is camping allowed on Burnett County Forest Land?

Camping on the County Forest is permitted in many areas with the purchase of a Camping Permit. More info...

14. Where can I go horseback riding in Burnett County?

15. Where can I ride my off-road motorcycle?

Off-road motorcycles are not allowed on Burnett County Forest Lands at any time.

16. Who do I contact to rent the park shelters?

All of the parks managed by the Burnett County Forest & Parks Department are Day-Use parks only and are not able to be reserved. They are all on a first come-first served basis with no user fees. No overnight camping is allowed. Click the link below for a listing of these Day-Use parks.

The pavilion at Crooked Lake in Siren is not managed by our department. During the summer months, please call #715-349-2256 for information on renting their pavilion. All other times of the year, please call Siren Village at 715-349-2273.

17. Who do I talk to about bear, deer, or any other wildlife issue?

20. Is it legal to hunt on Burnett County Forest Lands?

The entire Burnett County Forest is open to hunting, trapping, and fishing used by the general public during any legal season as established by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Individuals may not reserve areas or restrict use by others. Boats, canoes, or other personal belongings cannot be stored on county lands without permission.  Permanent hunting platforms or deer stands are not permitted. Only portable, non-damaging tree stands may be used and may be left up from September 15-January 31 with owner's name & address, or DNR Customer ID# attached.  Stands left overnight does not restrict others from using the stand nor does it restrict others from hunting that area. Cutting of shooting lanes or construction of ground level hunting blinds is not allowed.

21. Can I leave my deer stand up overnight on County Forest Land?

Permanent hunting platforms or deer stands are not permitted. Only portable, non-damaging tree stands may be used and may be left up from September 15-January 31 with owner's name & address, or DNR Customer ID# attached.  Stands left overnight does not restrict others from using the stand nor does it restrict others from hunting that area. Cutting of shooting lanes or construction of ground level hunting blinds is not allowed.

22. May I cut a Christmas Tree from the Burnett County Forest?

All county citizens and landowners may purchase a permit from the Burnett County Forest & Parks Department to cut a Christmas Tree. Natural Christmas trees are a limited resource and trees of a desirable species or shape are becoming harder to find. Trees grown on county forest lands are not sheared or shaped, but have grown with their natural branching pattern. More info...
